I have made some educational computer games for parents to use with small children to help them learn the computer skills needed to benefit from online learning tools. My kids learned to read very early and I credit sites like Starfall.com with that achievement. Learning to use the mouse and keyboard are the first steps toward that goal. Keyboard games

These games work with random key presses, for our youngest users. These games are meant to show a small child that the keyboard makes things happen on screen.

Shapes & Colors Keys – (coming soon)

These games work with specific key presses – when you hit the A an Apple appears. These games help a child to learn a more controlled use of the keyboard as well as introducing them to their letters and numbers, which is the building blocks of reading and math. (It will be important that your keyboard shows all of the characters – some have wiped off of my keyboard from use)

Mouse games

These games work by just moving the mouse – no clicking required. These games are wonderful for very small children who lack the coordination to click the mouse. It shows them that the mouse affects the screen with movements that they are able to handle.

Alphabet Roll: Food – English | en Español

These games require clicking – click on a number or letter to make something happen. These games build on the mouse skills learned above.

(The click allows you to use the mouse to count the dots on each number)

The internet is full of games for kids who have these skills – and we have links to sites that teach kids the dragging and dropping function that they will need to be full users as well as more sites and a list of holiday games that kids will love.
